12 oz. “beer bottle”
For years, island entrepreneurs collected empty beer bottles and refilled them with Bay Rum, sealed with a cork, in order to supply the indigenous population with their daily refreshing splash.
The West Indian Bay Tree is the source for Bay Essential Oil (pimenta racemosa). This is oil that, after distillation, has many uses in cottage industries that are too many to list. The use most often cited is its major contribution in the making of Bay Rum.
Bay Rum was sold in apothecary shops and stores such as R. H. Macy’s, beginning in the closing days of the 19th century. It was a staple on the islands of the Caribbean where the ills of humid weather and insect bites were figuratively wiped away with one splash to the body. All this with a masculine scent sans the often over bearing strength of many colognes on the market today.
Our Bay Oil is sourced from the island of Dominica in the Caribbean. Arguably, it is considered one of the best bay oils still crafted in the old fashioned way. There is no synthetic fragrance used here to produce our premium pure bay oil.
